About us
Lowedges Community Centre was created as a Community Association in 2023, it came out of what was LBJ Forum after the community centre had become able to be an independent body.
The Objects of the association are:
- To promote any charitable purposes for the benefit of the community in Lowedges, Batemoor and Jordanthorpe and in particular the advancement of education, the protection of health and the relief of poverty, distress and sickness.
- promote the benefit of the inhabitants of Lowedges and the surrounding Batemoor, Jordanthorpe and Greenhill neighbourhoods (hereinafter called the “area of benefit”) without distinction of sex, race or of political, religious or other opinions by associating together the said inhabitants and the statutory authorities, voluntary and other organisations in a common effort to advance education and to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and leisure time occupation with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants.
- In furtherance of these objects but not otherwise, the Management Committee shall have the power to maintain or manage or co-operate with any statutory authority in the maintenance and management of the community centre known as the Lowedges Community Centre for activities promoted by the charity in furtherance of the above objects.
To meet these aims we are involved in a variety of projects and services in the area, some of which are described in more detail in this website.
Lowedges Community Centre is led by a committee of local people who promote the sharing of resources to co-produce new activities and engagement opportunities while supporting the ongoing work of successful projects.
The Committee Members are volunteers who steer the Lowedges Community Centre. Each one brings expertise and experience.
They are:
- Greg Unwin (Chair) who is the retired Manager of The Terminus Initiative and PHIT, and is involved in the Methodist Ministry.
- Craig Judson (Treasurer) who is a Play & Development Manager of a charity, a Director of a Community Nursery, one of the founders of The Sheffield Play Partnership and a member of another Community Forum.
