Lowedges Community Centre Welcoming Art

The Lowedges Community Centre was created through LBJ Forum taking on the former Greenhill/Bradway Youth Centre.
In 2013 the LBJ Forum made the decision to prioritise our time and resources to adapt and make use of the under-used building. With the help of partners and grants from Community First and Sheffield City Council, we were able to improve the building through cleaning, decoration, building new internal walls and installing an improved heating system.

With an improved building that is suitable for all, we launched and reopened The Lowedges Community Centre on 12th May 2013 and in May 2023 it formed its own management committee and the Lowedges Community Centre become an entity.

Now the centre hosts a number of groups and activities for local people from children to older adults. These groups are run by local people and are open to anyone.

The Trustees were joined by the Lord Mayor, Local MP Lousie Haigh and Councillor Richard Shaw to re-launch the refurbished Lowedges Community Centre in April 2017.

Thanks to our success Sheffield City Council choose us in 2017 to undergo a full refurbishment, including the creation of three additional rooms, a new male toilet downstairs enabling us to create gender-neutral toilets upstairs, an upstairs Kitchenette enabling groups to be self-contained and multiple uses, and new daylight lighting that creates a more bright and welcoming atmosphere. As well as being fully re-decorated, new heating, lower warmer ceilings, modern emergency lighting and fire alarm, new flooring and replaced all the old toilets and hand basins.

The Lowedges Community Centre is also a delivery base for Sheffield City Council’s  Family Centres. Please see Sheffield Family Centres for more details. In 2019 one of our rooms was upgraded to create a simple medical room too that now allows local Midwifes to hold clinics in the community.
